CBDistillery Review

CBDistillery is a brand of Health Botanicals with a mission to bring fairly priced CBD to the masses, sound familiar?

The problem with the CBD market is that it is a booming, trending and unregulated market so companies can pretty much say what they want, which makes researching these companies and their products so vital.

Two Colorado residents founded CBDistillery in 2016 and it is now one of the largest and fastest-growing retailers of hemp-based products in the world. With one of the largest manufacturing operations they are uniquely placed to control the market from seed-to-sale with their vertical implementation.

Quality Control and Third Party Testing

CBDistillery has become well known due to its dedication to quality and affordable prices of its products. They are a certified member of the National Hemp Association (NHA) and have been at the forefront of the hemp movement to educate the general public to CBD’s benefits, eradicate misinformation and promote transparency.

The company is based in Denver, Colorado and most of its hemp is sourced and farmed in Colorado. Their farming follows very strict guidelines set by the FDA, although they aren’t approved by the FDA. Their farming methods are 100% organic, non-GMO and vegan approved, with no chemical fertilizers and pesticides used. They are also free of any artificial additives or flavourings, NHA and ISO9001 certified.

It is because of their willingness to be transparent that all of their products are tested by a third-party laboratory, Proverde Laboratories, with the results being made available on their website. There is also a QR code on the packaging of each product to the test results.

CO2 Extraction

As with most companies with the size of operation and reputation that CBDistillery have, they use only the best equipment and most up-to-date and efficient methods of CO2 extraction. CO2 extraction produces the best quality CBD oil out of all the extraction methods available, although it is also the most expensive. They generally use full-spectrum or isolates in their capsules, soft gels, gummies, vape oils, topicals, tinctures and isolate powders.

Shipping and Guarantees

Their products are available with free shipping to all 50 states domestically, but they don’t offer any international delivery on their website.

They also offer a unique 60 Day Satisfaction Guarantee whereby you can try a product for 2 weeks and if you aren’t satisfied with it they will ship you another product of your choice. You will need to fill out the Money Back Guarantee form on the site, no returns necessary.

They also offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, if you return the product, unopened. On top of this, they have excellent, friendly and knowledgeable customer service who are always happy to help you out. What’s also nice to see and a testament to their transparency is that they have both negative and positive comments on their website.

CBDistillery’s oils come in various strengths with their strongest dose being 5000mg, which packs a powerful punch and is one of the strongest on the market currently. Their products work well, are very effective and quick to relieve pain, stress, anxiety and other ailments.

My biggest hesitancy with this company is their lack of transparency on where they source their hemp. It’s all well and good them saying that it’s 100 % organically farmed and that it’s farmed locally, but why not say where?

Despite this, their testing results seems to prove that they are telling the truth when they make this claim, and they have a solid reputation with many positive reviews which seems to imply they are being truthful.

CBDistillery Isolates Review

An isolate is a CBD oil at its purest form and has all its other ingredients and natural compounds removed, leaving a 99% pure extract oil. In order to increase the bioavailability of its products, CBDistillery uses MCT as a base.

Their crystalline powder comes in 0.5mg to 14mg sizes, with 1000mg of CBD isolate per gram of powder which can be added to personal care products, beverages or food. You can also use the sublingual method to consume it, which is the fastest and most effective. These powders are very good for relieving stress and anxiety.

A lot of users prefer isolates because of the lack of odour and taste and also because it makes calculating the correct dose a lot easier.

To use these isolate powders you need to put the powder directly under your tongue for 60 seconds and the CBD will dissolve into your bloodstream through the mucus membranes present in your mouth.

The other big advantage of this powder is its versatility. One vet uses it to treat anxiety in animals before they have surgery, and he has reported excellent results.

They sell two forms of the crystalline powder, a traditional isolate and another with a finer consistency.

CBDistillery Tinctures Review

CBDistillery makes its tinctures in two sizes and a number of different strengths. The 15ml oils are available in 150mg, 250mg, 500mg and 1000mg strengths and the 30ml oils are available in 2500mg and 5000mg strengths. They areboth available in both isolate or full-spectrum forms using fractionated coconut oil (MCT) as a base, which promotes the CBD’s effectiveness and absorption into the body.

There are two main differences between an isolate and full-spectrum oil. An isolate only contains the pure CBD along with MCT, whereas a full-spectrum oil contains all the natural compounds of the hemp plant, including a trace amount of THC (0.3% or less). This has the advantage of creating the “entourage effect” where the many different compounds can work synergistically to produce additional benefits.

However, the full-spectrum oil has a very hempy taste which many people find unpalatable and therefore prefer the colourless and tasteless isolate oils.

The oil is usually taken by the sublingual method, which means putting 5-6 drops under your tongue, depending on the dose you need, for 20-30 seconds, which allows it to quickly enter the bloodstream.

These oils are most beneficial for relaxing, stress, insomnia, aches and pains however they don’t seem to be as potent as other brands so I wouldn’t recommend this product for severe pain.

CBDistillery also sells a full-spectrum Pet CBD Tincture which is available in two strengths: 150mg and 600mg and comes in a 1 oz container. The pet oils have the same potency and benefits as their regular oils and are formulated with cold-pressed hemp and help for dissipating discomfort, relaxation and relieving stress and possibly to help prevent seizures in some animals.

It comes with a dropper which is very handy for measuring the correct dose. It is recommended that you give your dog a dose twice a day. For dogs under 25lbs use half a dropper, 25lbs-75lbs a full dropper and over 75lbs two droppers.

CBDistillery CBDol Salve Review

The CBDol salve can be purchased in 1oz containers with a strength of 500mg. They have been specially formulated to give localized pain relief for muscular stress, aches and pains or sore feet particularly after a workout or long run.

It also works to reduce inflammation and promotes smooth, soft skin. One of its ingredients is camphor essential oil that produces a warm sensation as it penetrates the skin and is absorbed into your system. The relief is almost immediate and can last a few hours depending on how much you apply.

It has a minty smell and is made from 100% natural ingredients and has a vaseline texture which applies to the skin easily. You should be careful not to apply too much as it may stain your clothes, although it will wash out easily.

This salve works very well with localized pains, knotted muscles and arthritis. It is popular with athletes as a result of these benefits and its localized ease of use. Looking through the reviews online this works extremely well and soothes pain within 5-10 minutes of applying.

CBDistillery Softgels Review

The CBDistillery Softgel capsules are available both as an isolate or full-spectrum with a base of MCT fractionated coconut oil. They come packaged with 30 capsules with 30mg of CBD per serving. The full spectrum capsules don’t have any real discerning taste, but the bottles have a slight earthy hemp smell.

These capsules generally take 1-2 hours to take effect, depending on the dose you use and your metabolism, but when they do you can really appreciate the difference.

The full-spectrum capsules seem to be more potent than the isolates, probably because of the “entourage effect” of all the natural compounds working together. The full-spectrum capsules do contain a trace amount of THC (0.3%) so if you are concerned about passing a drug test at work you are better sticking with the pure isolates.

These capsules are small, discreet and easy to carry, so they are very convenient. They work in the same way as the tincture oils but because they are in a capsule form, they take a little longer to be absorbed into your system, also they don’t last quite as long (4-8 hours on average).

These capsules work extremely well for chronic pain, stress and nerve-related disorders such as multiple sclerosis because of their strong, precise dosage.

CBDistillery Lip Balm Review

The balm comes in a choice of two flavours, spearmint or vanilla, with 25mg of CBD per stick. The balm and CBD will re-hydrate your lips and heal chapped and split lips as well as protect them from the elements. It will also reduce inflammation and soreness with many users having also reported that it helps them to sleep better.

As it is applied directly to the lips and is formulated for a localized effect, you will feel the effects almost instantaneously and lasts 2-4 hours per application.

Conclusion: Is CBDistillery Legit?

CBDistillery is one of the largest and fastest-growing CBD companies on the market. Their products are highly recommended and have some high-profile endorsements. They also claim their products are 100% organically farmed, non-GMO and vegan friendly.

However, while searching online I came across numerous complaints, mainly about their delivery and customer service rather than about the products themselves. This may be due to their rapid expansion and not being able to keep up with the demand.

On a more serious note though is a report published by NBC. There was an NBC article and investigation into CBD companies in February, 2019. In the report, NBC stated that an unsafe quantity of pesticide was found in one of the samples they purchased from CBDistillery.

This is particularly disturbing for two reasons, firstly because of the health risks and danger it poses to consumers. Secondly, because CBDistillery state that their hemp uses 100% organic farming methods, which brings me back to my earlier concern over their lack of transparency on where their hemp is farmed and supplied from. NBC also reported that none of the products acquired contained the amount of CBD advertised on their label.

CBDistillery’s reply to these accusations was to state that the products that NBC acquired had passed the rigorous testing of their third party laboratory.

So, despite all of the positive reviews, and there are many of them, and the apparent benefits of their products, I would be very hesitant to recommend them on the above grounds and their lack of adequately explaining the presence of the pesticides. I would, therefore, be inclined to find another supplier, there are certainly enough to choose from.
