Full Lazarus Naturals Review

Lazarus Naturals was founded in 2014 by Sequoia Price-Lazarus and Evan Skandalis. It is a fully vertically integrated company and 100% employee-owned. This means that the company fully-controls all aspects of the manufacturing process from plant to table. It is one of the top CBD companies in the Pacific Northwest with its headquarters in Seattle, Washington.

Lazarus Naturals is a member of the US Hemp Roundtable, Oregon Cannabis Association, Oregon Industrial Hemp Farmers Association, Oregon Farm Bureau, and American Herbal Products Association.

Organic Farming

70% of Lazarus Naturals’ hemp is grown in Oregon on company-owned organic non-GMO vegan farms, the rest is sourced from local Oregon farmers. They are not yet certified 100% organic but they use sustainable pesticide-free farming techniques and hope to be fully transitioned to 100% organic and certified by 2022.

Methanol Extraction

Lazarus Naturals is one of the few leading brands that doesn’t use the CO2 extraction method for its CBD oils but instead uses the Kosker methanol extraction method. CO2 extraction is by far the most expensive form of extraction, whereas methanol extraction is one of the oldest and least expensive ways of extracting CBD oil, thereby making substantial savings on costs to enable them to undercut many other brands.

Tests have shown that after the extraction process less than 180 ppm residual methanol remains compared to the FDA’s safe limit of up to 16,000 ppm. Another advantage of using methanol instead of other solvents is that it can be re-used multiple times thereby reducing chemical waste.

The cannabis is put into a filtration device and at room temperature, or colder, methanol is passed through. The methanol then dehydrates to dissolve the cannabinoids. The methanol is then evaporated and then heat and a vacuum are applied to remove the residual methanol, but this can be a very time-consuming process. The quality of the end product depends heavily on the quality of the original plant and also the length of time the methanol is in contact with the cannabis. The longer the methanol is in contact with the cannabis the less pure the CBD oil will be. Therefore, to produce a pure oil you use a “short wash” (under one minute).

Lazarus Naturals use both isolates and full-spectrum CBD oils in their products. An isolate only has pure CBD and an MCT base, whereas a full-spectrum oil has all the plant’s natural compounds including up to 0.3% THC. Lazarus Naturals have a “high potency line” of CBD which they claim has 60mg of CBD per dose which is three times stronger than a regular tincture oil. To promote the bioavailability of the CBD they use MCT and avocado oil as a base in their products.

Independent Lab Testing

Due to the infancy of the CBD industry, third-party testing is a very important part of educating the public, gaining their trust and showing transparency. Lazarus Naturals use Medicine Creek for their third-party laboratory testing. Every batch produced is tested and the results are printed on the label and made available on the companies’ product pages on their website.

Medicine Creek is licensed by the Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board and it is a non-profit organization run by the Puyallup Indians. They test specifically for heavy metals, pesticides and its potency.

Now, that all sounds good and transparent but it appears that on many of the tests, not all of the information is disclosed, and NR (Not Reported) is on the results. They have been called out on this topic several times but to date, they haven’t responded or given any form of explanation. On top of that, NBC tested products from five different companies and the Lazarus Naturals test showed the presence of a significant amount of lead as well as having less CBD than was stated on the label. As a result, Lazarus Naturals released a statement in their defence.

Free Shipping & Guarantees

Lazarus Naturals have some of the lowest-priced CBD products on the market, as with most CBD companies based in the US, they also offer free three-day shipping to all 50 states. However, if you need your order urgently you can pay for overnight or two-day shipping also.

It’s nice to see that Lazarus Naturals offers a 30-day full money-back guarantee but the product has to be returned unopened and undamaged and the cost of the return will be deducted from your refund. This means if your product cost less than about $30 it probably wouldn’t be worth returning as the cost of returning it would probably be more than what you paid for it.

Lazarus Naturals have a full range of CBD tinctures, capsules and topicals.

Lazarus Naturals’ Discount Program

Lazarus Naturals have an excellent discount program to help patients or customers who are veterans, have a long-term disability or are from low-income families. If a patient is eligible to participate in this program they can claim a 40% discount on anything they buy, up to a total of $250 a month after the discount.

Lazarus Naturals CBD Tinctures Review

Lazarus Naturals tinctures are their most popular line with varying choices of strength, potency and quantity. They are available in 15/60/120 ml bottles with 225mg to 6000mg strengths. There are also a variety of flavours, including natural, in either full-spectrum or isolate form. Each bottle comes with a labelled dropper which makes it very easy to measure the dose. There are approx. 30 drops per ml of oil which is 0.5mg of CBD per drop.

They have two grades of their tincture, their standard tinctures and a “High Potency line”. The high potency tinctures contain 50mg of CBD per ml of oil and use MCT (fractionated coconut oil) and organic hempseed as a base to increase bioavailability. This comes in natural, chocolate mint and vanilla mocha flavours.

Their standard strength tinctures, by comparison, only contain 25mg of CBD per ml of oil and also come in 15ml, 60ml or 120ml bottles. They are available in Tropical Breeze, Wintermint, Blood Orange, Vanilla Green Tea and Natural flavours.

These are also all available either as a full-spectrum or isolate CBD. The isolate is a pure CBD oil with only the MCT and hempseed oil to facilitate its absorption. All of Lazarus Naturals’ products are non-GMO, vegan and gluten-free with natural fruit extracts and terpenes. There are also no artificial flavourings, sweeteners or preservatives.

The tinctures are very good for stress, anxiety, insomnia and headaches. They are also helpful for relieving muscle aches and soreness but not for intense pain. Generally, it takes about 15 minutes to feel their full effect and it lasts for about six hours, depending on the user’s metabolism.

The biggest and most common complaint people had with the tinctures was that the full-spectrum oil had a very earthy and hempy smell and a very strong unpalatable taste.

Also, if you work for a company that does regular drug testing or you have to be tested regularly you should stick to the isolate products because several users have failed their drug test when using full-spectrum products.

A few people have also complained of nausea and increased anxiety but this can be caused by certain underlying ailments, especially if using the high potency oils, so you should always check with your doctors before using.

Lazarus Naturals also sell two types of sample packs with their tinctures:

High Potency Sample Pack– 1 bottle of full-spectrum high potency CBD tincture oil (750mg / 15ml), 1 bottle of full-spectrum high potency capsules (10 count/50mg), and 1 Lavender balm 0.5 oz tin.

Standard Sample Pack– 1 bottle of full spectrum standard potency tincture oil (225mg / 15ml), 1 bottle of full spectrum capsules (10 count/ 25mg), 1 Lavender balm 0.5 oz..

Lazarus Naturals CBD Balm Review

Lazarus Naturals sells its CBD balm in two sizes, 0.5oz or 2oz with a potency of 25mg per ml, but it’s only available with full-spectrum CBD. There are several different scents of balm available other than natural and they are; Lavender, Citrus, Portland Rose and Soothing Mint, which have a relaxing, calming effect. These balms have a refreshing floral scent.

The balm is formulated with skincare ingredients, such as beeswax and mango butter which helps to promote healthy, smooth skin. It is specifically designed to be applied locally to the area that is causing the pain and the full effects will be felt within a few minutes. It is good for relieving muscle fatigue, inflammation, headaches and insomnia. It is very easily applied and has a texture similar to massage creams.

I didn’t come across any negative user reviews on this balm when conducting my research, and in fact, the comments were overwhelmingly positive and it was highly recommended.

Lazarus Naturals Capsules Review

Lazarus Naturals’ capsules are very popular and are available in a large range of choices. There are three different strengths of capsules available 10mg, 20mg and 50 mg per capsule and they are available in 10,40 or 200 count bottles in either full-spectrum or isolate form.

They are available in two different blends, Relaxation Blend and Energy Blend. The ingredients used; Ashwagandha Extract, L-Tryptophan, Vegetable Cellulose (Capsule), Chamomile Extract, L-Theanine, CBD Isolate, Organic Brown Rice Flour, Vitamin B6, are well formulated and blend together nicely to give a very consistent result in combating insomnia.

You should take a dose about 30 minutes before bedtime in order to promote a deep, relaxing and stress-free sleep. An added benefit of using these CBD capsules seems to be that, unlike with other drugs, users were able to dream more vividly and recall them more easily. They were also very good for relieving stress, anxiety and headaches.

On the other hand the Energy Blend didn’t prove to be as effective. Its ingredients include Organic Brown Rice Flour, L-Theanine, Rhodiola, Vegetable Cellulose (Capsule), Caffeine, CBD Isolate, Vitamin B12. They still worked well for relieving stress and anxiety but they seemed to have had little effect in boosting people’s energy levels.

Conclusion: Is Lazarus Naturals Legit?

Lazarus Naturals are a popular choice and have a loyal following. They have a large range of products, with a wide range of CBD strengths available and have some great reviews. Since being founded in 2014 they have built a very solid reputation.

Their discount program for veterans, long-term disabled and low-income families is an excellent incentive that has helped many users with its generous discounts. Even without the discount, Lazarus Naturals prices are among the lowest available.

But I have a few causes for concern. Firstly, and foremost is the NBC report, despite their statement which addressed this, that their products didn’t have the CBD they claimed and that excessive lead was found in one of the samples.

The lack of transparency in their third-party reports is also a problem and leads to the suspicion that they are hiding something.

On top of this, is their usage of Methanol extraction as opposed to CO2, which might be a way of cutting corners and saving costs, rather than for quality reasons.

Lastly, they claim to be non-GMO, vegan and gluten-free with organic farming methods yet 30% of their supply comes from farms that haven’t been organically certified and say they are unlikely to be certified until 2022.
